EASTAP ExComm Elections
EASTAP Executive Committee Elections
Dear EASTAP members,
According to the Constitution of EASTAP, half of the 20 members of the association’s Executive Committee are elected every two years, including the 2 Emerging Scholar Representatives whose office tenure (due to the length of PhD studies) only lasts for 2 years.
Of the current members of the Executive Committee, these members who were elected in 2024 will continue in their offices until 2028:

In addition, the editor and co-editor of the EASTAP journal, Timmy DE LAET and Pieter VERSTRATE are full ex officio members of the Executive Committee.
Furthermore, organisers of future EASTAP conferences become ex officio members of the Executive Committee. Therefore, in 2026 there are the following vacant positions to be filled, and we now invite and encourage all members of the organisation to put themselves forward, or to discuss the candidature of other members to stand for office:
- 2 Emerging Scholar Representatives, for a tenure of 2 years
- 10 ordinary members of the Executive Committee, for a tenure of 4 years.
With the exception of the ESRs, Ex Comm members are not elected for specific offices, but these will be allocated amongst all members at their constituting meeting during the 2026 Groningen conference. That meeting will then also elect a new President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary from among all 18 elected ExComm members.
According to the EASTAP Statutes, the 10 present outgoing ExComm members may stand once for re-election; those who have already served for two periods will not be able to stand again for election but are still more than welcome to continue their work
for the organisation on specific tasks as affiliated ExComm members (without voting rights). According to the Statutes, the Executive Committee shall ensure a fair balance among nationalities in its membership. As far as possible, no more than two representatives of one country of residence can be represented in the Ex Comm (as country of residence is considered the location of the institutional affiliation/place of work).
To stand for election, candidates must be current EASTAP members with an active membership for 2026. Candidates can join the association as new members for the purpose of standing for election. For registration and membership follow this link:

Candidates submit their candidature through the electronic registration form, supported by the (electronic) signatures of at least 3 current EASTAP members from three countries. The nomination form also asks for a short statement (max. 250 words) to express the motivation to stand for election and the candidate’s intentions to contribute if elected; this will be published to all voters as part of the election.
This process is identical for Emerging Scholar candidates and ordinary members of the Executive Committee.

Candidates are asked to use the email address they also use for their EASTAP membership account.
Subsequently, an online election will be opened on 16 July 2026 for all current members of the association. Results will be announced and formally approved by the General Assembly at the 2026 EASTAP Conference at Groningen from 23 September. If 10 or less nominations are received, all nominated candidates will be automatically proposed for election by the AGM.
The election process is overseen by an Election Committee consisting of Philip Hager, Avra Sidiropoulou and Martina Groß as members of the EASTAP Executive Committee.
